Our Mission
At Natural Kattalei, our mission is to harness the pure, restorative power of the Colombian Amazon—through sustainably harvested botanicals and community-driven practices—to craft all-natural skincare and haircare solutions that nourish your body, uplift local livelihoods, and steward the health of our planet.

Our Founder
Maria Esperanza Quitian Caro
Natural Kattalei was founded by Maria Esperanza Quitian Caro, a Colombian business administrator with years of experience in public programs, entrepreneurship, and rural development. Her work has included efforts to promote sustainable livelihoods in areas affected by conflict and to support alternatives to illicit crop cultivation.

🌿 Harvesting & Transport in the Colombian Amazon
In the lush, biodiverse lowlands of the Colombian Amazon — particularly in departments like Putumayo, Caquetá, Guaviare, and Amazonas — the harvesting of Amazonian fruits is carried out almost entirely by local smallholder farmers, indigenous families, and rural cooperatives. These communities are the stewards of both the land and the traditional knowledge used to gather and protect these unique resources.
Who Harvests the Fruits?
- Indigenous Communities: Groups such as the Inga, Murui, Tikuna, and others practice ancestral, low-impact harvesting techniques passed down through generations.
- Campesino Families: Rural farming families, many of whom live in areas affected by past conflict, are now part of a new, sustainable rural economy.
- Women’s Associations: In many areas, women lead local collectives that specialize in fruit gathering and seed selection, providing income and empowerment.
- These harvesters operate within community forests, agroforestry plots, or traditional “chagras” — forest gardens that blend conservation with cultivation.
How the Fruits Are Harvested
- Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis): Grown in small agroforestry plots; seeds are hand-collected, sun-dried, and stored in breathable sacks to maintain freshness.
- Copoazú (Theobroma grandiflorum): Fruits are collected by hand once fallen ripe from the tree, preserving both the tree and the surrounding habitat.
- Açaí (Euterpe oleracea): Climbers harvest ripe berry clusters using traditional climbing gear and ropes, often in flooded forest zones.
- Chontaduro (Bactris gasipaes): Harvested from tall palms, often with long harvesting poles or by climbing, then bundled for transport.
All harvesting is done with minimal environmental impact — no machinery, no chemicals, and always with respect for the seasonal rhythms of the forest.
How the Ingredients Reach Market
Once harvested, the fruits, seeds, or pulps begin their journey from the Amazon to small processing centers or direct clients like Natural Kattalei. This step involves complex logistics in a region with limited infrastructure:
- Transport Methods:
- On foot or motorcycle from remote forest plots to the nearest trailhead or village.
- By canoe or riverboat along rivers such as the Putumayo or Caquetá, depending on the season.
- By mule or small truck from intermediate hubs to towns like Mocoa, Villagarzón, or Puerto Asís.
- Many producers work in collaboration with associations or cooperatives who help aggregate and organize bulk transport, ensuring both quality control and fair payment.
This system of community-led harvesting and decentralized transport is what allows Natural Kattalei to work directly with source communities, reducing intermediaries, preserving ingredient freshness, and ensuring that profits remain in the Amazon.

Our Production Facilities
Founded in 2019, Natural Kattalei S.A.S. Zomac was established in Mocoa, Putumayo, Colombia — a unique region where the Andes Mountains transition into the lush Amazonian savannah. As a ZOMAC-designated company, we operate under a Colombian government initiative that encourages business development in zones most affected by armed conflict, promoting local employment and economic growth. Our facility is a modern, 232 square meter (2,500 sq. ft.) production center — the only INVIMA-certified cosmetic manufacturing site in the Colombian Amazon. (INVIMA, Colombia's National Food and Drug Surveillance Institute, is the regulatory authority that ensures health product safety and quality — similar to the FDA in the United States.) We are certified to produce solid, semi-solid, and liquid cosmetic products using strict sanitary and environmental protocols. Sustainability is integrated into every aspect of our operation. Our facility runs on a rainwater harvesting system, significantly reducing our environmental impact. All facility water undergoes a 7-stage filtration process, while the water used in our products is further purified through two additional filtration stages. To guarantee the highest standards of quality, this water is routinely tested by an independent laboratory to ensure purity and safety. From the heart of the Colombian Amazon, we combine innovation, sustainability, and community empowerment to create natural care products you can trust.

Our Authentic Process

From the Amazon to You
At Natural Kattalei, every product begins with a thoughtful consideration of what our clients truly need—effective, safe, and nourishing care rooted in nature. We start by identifying specific skincare and wellness goals, and then explore how the Amazon, with its unparalleled biodiversity, can offer unique solutions. The potent botanicals and oils native to this region—many used for generations by indigenous communities—form the basis of our innovation. Our development process is both rigorous and respectful. Each formulation is the result of deep research: we investigate ancestral and hereditary knowledge, consult scientific literature, and analyze the therapeutic properties of our ingredients. This careful balance of tradition and science allows us to create products that are both highly effective and deeply connected to their Amazonian origins. Once a formula is complete, we conduct thorough quality testing and obtain the appropriate health and safety certifications. We then introduce each product through small-scale, real-world use, gathering feedback and ensuring performance before expanding its availability. Only after meeting our highest standards does a product become part of our permanent collection—an offering of true Amazonian quality for the world.
